Site preparation and subfloor
Remove all furniture and vacuum the subfloor thoroughly. The surface must be clean, dry and level.
Check for dips, humps or debris — anything over 2mm in a 1m span should be levelled with a suitable compound.
If installing over new concrete, ensure it is fully dry, with moisture readings below 0.3% CM.
A suitable underlay should be used, depending on whether the floor is floated or fully bonded.

Expansion gaps
Leave a consistent 10mm gap at all walls, pillars, stairs, doorways and fixed furniture such as kitchen islands. When drilling around pipes, leave a 10mm space around the pipe.

Setting out for herringbone

  1. Find the centre of the room and mark a central axis line with a chalk line.

  2. Dry lay several rows to confirm alignment and pattern balance.

  3. Prepare a perfectly square starter board (approx. 750mm x 750mm) and fix it in place to guide the first rows.

  4. Sort planks into left and right sets before beginning installation.

Installation steps

  1. Spread adhesive evenly over a small section using a 3–6mm notched trowel.

  2. Set the first left plank snug to the starter board, then add a right plank to form the first “V” shape.

  3. Continue alternating left and right planks along the centre line, ensuring each joint is tight and square.

  4. Work outwards from the centre, following your chalk lines to keep rows straight.

  5. Allow adhesive to cure in the starter area before continuing.

  6. Measure and cut the final rows to fit, maintaining a 10mm expansion gap around the perimeter.

  7. Once complete, remove spacers and cover the expansion gap with skirting or trims fixed to the wall, not the floor.

Allow 24 hours before placing furniture or heavy items on the floor.

Protection
Real wood floors can mark over time, but the following will help minimise damage:

  • Use felt pads under furniture legs and chairs.

  • Lift furniture instead of dragging it.

  • Use entrance mats to trap dirt and grit.

  • Avoid walking on the floor with stiletto heels or sports boots.

  • Apply maintenance oils or lacquer protection as recommended.

Cleaning
Sweep or vacuum regularly and clean with a lightly damp mop using a pH-neutral wood floor cleaner. Never use steam cleaners or excessive water.

Heat and humidity
Maintain a room temperature between 16°C and 28°C and relative humidity between 40–65% RH.
Wood naturally expands and contracts with changes in climate, so stable conditions are key to longevity.

Underfloor heating
If used, keep the surface temperature below 27°C and increase gradually when switching on.
